14 hari indah di malaysia - Part 1

speacial for this post, i will tell a story of 'perjalanan empat belas hari indah di malaysia'. although Dubai is a dream land for most of the architects around the world (and a dream vacation destination for most of us), to me, Malaysia still number one! Blessed with rain and wind, full with green trees, and variety of food choices; it is a beautiful country here in Malaysia..

part 1 : 3 hari indah di kuala lumpur

hmm, ini lah antara shot pertama bila sampai ke malaysia. hard to explain, rasa lega sangat. walau pun baru 6 bulan meninggalkan malaysia, terasa rindu sangat. dan bila nampak familiar faces kat KLIA dan Kl Sentral, rasa syukur sebab dah lama xnampak malay seramai itu (walau di office sekarang memanglah ramai malay pun, hehe).

thinking that maybe i wont be back to malaysia that often, i prepared myself with all the gifts and souvenirs. 50 dubai t-shirts for my siblings, nieces and nephews, key chains for my friends, chocolate and dates, and this beautiful flowers. and of course, bunga ni beli kat KL Sentral saja, kang beli bunga dubai, sampai kl dah jadi bunga kering!

kl sentral dan hujan. yup, one of the little thing that i missed a lot ialah HUJAN!. dan sepanjang panjang 14 hari di Malaysia, almost everyday hujan (cherish the moment, walau basah lencun masa jalan jalan di kl dek kena hujan). hehe. Ingatkan di Malaysia saja hujan lebat, been informed that masa balik ke Malaysia, di Dubai pun hujan turun lebat jugak, siap guruh dan kilat sekali. xdapat lah tengok hujan di gurun tu. meybe next time.

the next day, i went out with miss d and then hang out with a group of my friends. terpaksa kejar masa dan planning the time baik baik, takut ada yang terasa bila xdapat jumpa semua, dan tak dapat habiskan masa secukupnya. memang puas hati dapat jumpa kawan kawan semua walaupun sekejap. dan kepada yang xsempat jumpa dan say hi, sorry banyak banyak. 14 hari di malaysia terasa sangat pendek, nanti kita jumpa bila ada masa terluang.

one of the best thing in Malaysia is MAKAN!! kami makan di Bubba Gum, the Curve. Restaurant ni konsepnya inspired by a film called 'Forest Gum'.

hady, yusry and fadzly. few days before balik ke dubai, fadzly called me saying that yusry masuk dalam berita harian. at first, im quite shocked. donno masuk paper sebab apa. rupa rupanya, dia masuk rungan 'Lelaki Hari Ini', telling about his life, career and stuff. hahaha, buat saspen saja.

yusry, hady and firdaus.
know them for almost 10 years. since matriculation years back in uia.

part 2 : 6 hari indah di kuala berang, terengganu

ini lah dia askar askar yang dikerahkan untuk menemas rumah. forgot to tell, tujuan utama balik ke Malaysia ialah untuk menghadiri majlis perkahwinan my younger sister, latifah bersama pasangannya ridwan. majlis sebelah perempuan diadakan at our house kat kuala berang, terengganu dan sebelah lelaki di tumpat kelantan. boleh dikatakan semua adik beradik turun ke kampung membantu dan inilah hasilnya, lebih 30 orang anak anak sedara, dipaksa menjadi buruh kasar (dan tak lupa, arkitek juga diturunkan pangkat menjadi buruh kasar - kena paksa basuh rumah, angkut barang, naik moto pi kedai dan sebagainya, hahaha).

selepas proses mengemas, semua orang memberi ekpresi muka keletihan (walaupun sekadar lakonan). yang tengah tengah ialah my younger brother - fakhrur. selalu disalah anggap sebagai member walau jarak umur antara kami almost 5 tahun.

"this is how we dance pop yeh yeh". walau hujan lebat, kami ditugaskan pi sediakan penunjuk arah dan bunga manggar. naik moto tengah tengah malam, dalam hujan, dengan tak pakai helmet. hehehe, seronok betol.

caught in the act. kantoi. tengah orang sebok sebok mengemas, sempat pulak dua orang ni bercinta bawah sofa yang dah diterbalik kan. nasib baik JAWI x sedar..

nuhaa. my other anak sedara.

mata bulat. kening terbentuk. bulu mata lentik. huh, ni dah besar besok sure cantik ni, macam maknya jugak.

disebabkan i'm the only guy yang familiar with Nikon D80, i've been assigned to be the photographer of the day. dengan kata lain, semua orang boleh pose dan masuk gambar, except me. huhuhu. luckily i'm an expert in amik gambar sendiri. so, sori kekawan, gambar sendiri semuanya the same pose. tangan x cukup panjang. huhu.

to be continued...

Dubai : My first.....

3 days from now, i will fly back to Malaysia for my first time. Its been 5 months since my first step in Dubai. Time flies - i've been walking through a memorable, exciting yet sometimes dissappointing moment, here in this Arab land.

This post dedicated specially to all my family members, friends and my loved one - Dubai : My First time...

Its me, way before i came to Dubai.

My First : Solat Jumaat in Dubai

I have no idea what to wear for my first time Jumaah Prayer here, so i just grab my songkok (that i brought for Hari Raya celebration), wear Baju Melayu with jeans. I thought the mosque must be full of Arab people with Jubah and serban. Surprisingly, i was surrounded by hundreds of Indians and Pakistanis. Ingatkan tersesat sampai ke Mumbai!!

My first : Apartment in Bur Dubai

After few days in Dubai, i realized that my apartment actually equipped with gym and swimming pool. Yaayy. I can save money and still can enjoy quality time in gym (pernah join California Fitness di Jalan Sultan Ismail dan Fitness First di Pavillion b4 terbengkalai coz datang ke Dubai). and of course, i managed to work out at the gym only for 3 time and the rest of the time, stuck in the office.

My First : Jalan jalan di Syeikh Zayed Road

During my first week in Dubai, i had my first jalan jalan. and of course, that was way before the existance NDD Club. Really amazed with the Burj Dubai Tower (walau belum siap hingga ke hari ini - will be launched in 2009). Cuaca sangat panas walau lewat petang dan malam hari. No matter what, still keluar jalan jalan, snap few photos and quickly send to close friends, saying "hey, i snap photos of Burj Dubai!!". Yeah, i know, sangat jakun kan?

My First : Drastic Haircut

Yess, my drastic haircut shocked my officemate. Well actually, its not new. i always change my haircut and hairstyle every six months (even during study years). Love to keep my hair a bit long, but bila dah panjang, rimas, kerja banyak, xde masa nak jaga rambut... resulting SPIKY HAIR.

My First : Best Friend

Hairol is his name. We share the same plane, fly from the same Kuala Lumpur. We share the same bus, travel from the same Abu Dhabi Airport to Dubai. We share the same room of the same apartment. But, unfortunately, the room occupied just for three months. Hairol decided to resign and back for good to Malaysia. No matter what, hairol still remained as one of my best friend.

My First : Iftar in Dubai
A great experience! mengingatkan kembali kenangan masa kecik, makan dalam talam with my brother and sister, but here, the food was served on top of piece of plastic covering! Bare meal, haha. and its free! We share the food with all the pakistani and indians. what a blessed ramadhan, to see architect and labour eat side by side without boundary...

My First : Visit to Burjuman Shopping Mall

There are lots of shopping mall in Dubai, and this is one of the first mall i visited. paling kerap ke Burjuman because of the location; near to my apartment, accessibility; next to Singapore Deli (my favourite Malay-Indon-Singapore restaurant), variety; Zara boutique sini paling banyak choices compared to Mall of Emirates or festival city (if i'm not mistaken), and not to forget, near the sidewalk, ada mamat india jual pirated DVD. haha. murah murah.

My First : Formal Visit to Medinat Jumeirah

Two of us, my team-mate and me, joined this formal visit to medinat jumeirah, as a case study. there are around 8 more people accompanied us (including project architects, engineers, hotel operator and their staff). A very fun and informative visit. we had the chance to visit the most expensive villa over there which cost you dirham 23, 000 per night. Crazy!!

My First : Visit to Dubai Festival City Mall

been there in the Holy month of Ramadhan. Very huge shopping mall (mana ada shopping mall di dubai ni yang kecik..), but the thing that i like of the mall is its location that side by side to a marina (with boats park in front of the mall). and we even can see the sun set from the marina!

My First : Package from Home

I received this package during the month of Ramadhan. cant stop from smiling all day long (er.. nasib baik hari tu ambik cuti, so takde org nampak la senyum kambing dari pagi sampai ke malam). and for all malaysian out there, yup, semua org di dubai ni really really appreciate anything (packages / letter / postcard / kuih raya etc.), i mean anything from malaysia. hard to explain the feeling! special thanks to my sis, Kak Dah, yang rajin pi shopping and postkan ke sini. dapat lah masak gulai, kerutub, ikan bilis, ikan kering, dan menda menda mengarut lain (masa kat malaysia dulu, pandang pun tidak kat ikan kering..huhu)..

My First : Real size ship in a building???

yes, everything is possible in Dubai. The sky is the limit. This is my first visit to Ibnu Battuta Mall ; a theme mall. surprisingly, the mall's drop off look just like Tokong Cina - and i have no idea of why the heck this crazy designer, design a such tokong in a middle of Arab land. Bila dah masuk, baru lah realized, actually, the mall has a concept of Ibnu Battutta's journey. the building (very very huge), subdivided into 5 sections and each section representing a different theme. Start with chinese theme (which internal decoration resemblance the chinese culture), followed by india, persian, etc, etc. and apa yg lebih pelik, every section has a triple-volume courtyard, with a gigantic feature inside it. chinese with huge ship. Indian with huge elephant. Nice experience though..

My First : Dubai Cityscape

spent a whole day - from 10am till 5pm over the exhibition and still tak sempat singgah to every stall! I just luv the crazy proposal, amazed with the insane ideas, impressed with the unthinkable design (and of course, crappy, tipu tipu punya design pun ada). Cut it short, lepas keluar dari exhibition hall, my hand bengkak2 grab all the brochures dan esoknya terus demam!

p/s : will dedicate a special post on Cityscape later!

My First : Camping in Abu Dhabi

I love camping! and this is my first camping experience in Abu Dhabi (hmm, kalau campur oman, second time la ni). Dan kitorang camping, sangatlah RAW. janji ada sleeping bag. janji tepi pantai. landing dan terus tido. takde unggun api, takde khemah, takde mosquito repellant. Thanks to my comfort, thick, queen size sleeping bag, disebabkan saiznya yang QUEEN dan besar itu, everytime camping mesti kena share. huhu.

My First : NDD Volume One - Oman

Our first getaway. few words can describe it : unplanned yet planned (if u know what i mean) + raya dua kali (dubai dan oman - dubai raya awal sehari compared to oman) + exhausted yet entertained + first time tengok pak arab pakai jubah minum arak! what?? + dilabel kaki tido dalam bas (what to do, that is my specialty, haha).

My First NDD Volume Two - Abu Dhabi

should i say more? hmmmm.. xpayah la, baca je the previous post, ok?

My First : Nikon D80

koyak rabak my pocket to buy this camera. ikat perut kemas kemas tahan lapar. but its worth it. luv photography very much and i will master this camera in time. just wait for more beautiful photos in my blog, next time!

will explore more things and places in Dubai, will learn more of the architecture, will share more with all of you. See ya!

stress-released trip to Abu Dhabi

Way back in Kuala Lumpur, i used to have TRAVEL-BUDDY : a group of friends that always accompany me for vacation trip. Yup, there are four of us, love to travel + experiencing new place. we've been to Bali, Singapore, Phuket and Jakarta (in groups), Bangkok and not to forget our beautiful local islands.
Here in Dubai, things changed and i cant join them for trips anymore (they're planning to go to Hong Kong this year, damn it!), so, i join another Travelling group formed by our very own XEDL group called NDD club - stands for Nyah Dari Dubai - what a name.. :P
We've been to Oman for NDD Volume one and for this time around, NDD Volume two headed to Abu Dhabi for a stress-released trip.
Though Abu Dhabi is just nearby (about 1 and half hour journey from dubai), i must say that the trip was good. Dubai and Abu Dhabi located just side by side, yet, there are so much differences between them. Yup, its true, Dubai is hip, hype and happening, but at the same time, Dubai has this 'frantic' feeling, everything in rush, people honk whenever they wanna honk and we can hear this hectic sounds from construction sites almost everywhere. And opposite to Dubai, Abu Dhabi feels calm. Enough said, just browse to our trip photos and judge by yourselves..

we overnite by the beach to count the bright stars and to smell the sea breeze

our professional cameraman: Ad on duty

yeah, they enjoyed the beach very much! (me too..)

very peaceful - ni lah tempat kitorang tukar baju

a very very big palace of the ruler - jadi backdrop saja.. haha

mana nak dapat rainbow kat tengah tengah hari... huh..

opposite to marina mall - skyline of Abu Dhabi city

had our breakfast and window shopping in marina mall (yeah, i know, look like a poser)

abu dhabi mall - window shopping before heading to nearest mosque for friday prayer

me in black - at the center of Abu Dhabi

yes fahimi... we had our breakfast in paris (no wonder najdi gave a supermodel pose at the back there..haha)

our last stop was the Syeikh Zayed mosque - one of the most beautiful mosque i've ever seen (semua poyo bergambar konon2 dalam poster citer HEROES)

all of us except Mr. Ad the photographer

beautiful.. beautiful..

me after maghrib prayer - amazed by the huge chandelier

people said, it took 15 years to finish the construction of the mosque.. is it?

hmm... can i copy this for my project?

along the way, there are several other buildings that catch our eyes and heart (Such Aldar development by the sea - a building that lookalike a standing doughnut etc.). just hoping that someday, malaysia will have beautiful buildings like this.

Till the next NDD trip!
